A 36-YEAR-OLD man who terrorised Harare’s leafy suburbs with a trail of burglaries, robberies and rape has finally been brought to justice.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Issa Siyabu was convicted on 25 counts of unlawful entry, theft, robbery and rape after a relentless crime spree across Borrowdale and Mt Pleasant between November 2021 and January 2024.
Siyabu’s reign of terror saw him breaking into multiple homes, stealing laptops, mobile phones, cash and personal documents. Some of his crimes went far beyond theft.
In one of the most horrific attacks, recorded as Count 19, Siyabu threatened a woman, undressed her by force and raped her before stealing property worth US$750. In another incident, he held a victim at knifepoint and forced her to reveal the location of US$700.
His luck finally ran out when forensic evidence linked him to one of the crime scenes. Confronted with the evidence, Siyabu later cooperated with police detectives, leading them to several houses where he demonstrated how he carried out the attacks.
The court found him guilty on all counts and handed down a staggering 100-year sentence, with 50 years suspended on condition of good behaviour. This left him with an effective 50 years behind bars.
The NPAZ praised the investigative teamwork that brought the predator down and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on violent crime.
“This sentence sends a clear message that violent offenders, particularly those who commit sexual and home invasion crimes, will face the full wrath of the law,” said the NPAZ.
This idiot will be released in 2075 as an 86 year old veteran of the slammer. Why suspend half the sentence anyway. This rubbish will never come out alive.
