A 23-year-old man from Nkayi District appeared before the courts for allegedly sexual violating a 13-year old juvenile.
Khulani Nkomo of Mtshatshane Village, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Archie Wochiunga facing a charge of raping a female juvenile aged 13 years.
The two are not related but were said to be having an affair. The matter was postponed to 16 December for continuation of trial.
Prosecuting, Ms Nkanyezi Xaba, told the courts that on July 30, 2025 at around 11PM the accused person allegedly collected the complainant from her homestead and went with her to his homestead.
“Nkomo and the complainant were reportedly in a relationship at that time. However, the court noted that the complainant is a minor at law and she cannot consent to having sexual activities,” said Ms Xaba.
The court heard that the accused and the juvenile spent the whole night together and during the night they had consensual sexual intercourse once.
“The matter came to light on August 2, 2025 when the complainant revealed the matter to her mother who was looking for her,” she said.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest. The complainant was referred to Nkayi District Hospital for medical examination.
