THREE aircraft are being prepared for cloud-seeding as Government activates its six-pillar response strategy to cushion the country against anticipated below-normal rainfall and elevated temperatures during the 2026-2027 summer season.
Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka said Government was stepping up preparations to enhance and augment rainfall as part of measures to mitigate the effects of the anticipated dry season.
He was speaking following a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee established by Cabinet to ensure that preparedness for the season remains at the highest level.
“We are looking at enhancement and augmentation of rainfall. We just had the Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting of the Cabinet Committee established last year to ensure that preparedness is at the highest level,” said Dr Masuka.
The committee assessed the availability of aircraft, pilots and technical personnel, as well as the locations from which cloud-seeding operations will be conducted: Masvingo, Bulawayo and Harare.
“We are looking at the availability of aircraft, availability of our pilots, availability of the technical people and the locations of the aircraft,” he said.
