FOUR people died on the spot when a Zambian-registered haulage truck (BCF 6582) collided head-on with a Mazda truck near Nyazura Bridge on the Mutare-Harare highway early this morning.
The accident occurred around 4am, approximately 100 metres before the Nyazura Bridge, when the Mazda truck allegedly encroached onto the lane of the oncoming haulage truck, resulting in the fatal collision.
All the deceased passengers, and one other person who escaped with serious injuries, were aboard the Mazda truck.
The survivor was taken to Rusape General Hospital for treatment.

By 7:30am, the four bodies were still at the scene in police trucks from Rusape Traffic. The Zambian driver, whose name could not be immediately established, was taken by police in a truck carrying one of the bodies.
Police at the scene refused to comment, citing restrictive protocol.
The front of the Mazda truck was badly damaged, while the haulage truck veered off the road and was stopped by a rock outcrop.
The Zambian truck was en route to Forbes Border Post, while the Mazda truck was heading towards Rusape.
