ABOUT forty gemstone miners from different parts of the country are undergoing the Principles of Gemstone Mastery training at the Zimbabwe School of Mines (ZSM) in Bulawayo sponsored by the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ).
The miners affiliated to the Young Miners Foundation (YMF) have been drawn from the mining provinces of Zimbabwe for the 12 days training running from December 08 to 19, 2025.
In an interview on the sideline of the training, YMF chairperson Mr Talent Chitepo said they were thankful to their partners (MMCZ and ZSM) for the fruition of the programme.
“We have miners from across the country who are learning skills in this crucial training, which is vital for the growth of our economy and for the creation of employment in the country. We look forward to more of this in the coming year as we enter into the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2),” he said.
He said their goal was to equip the miners with skills to ensure they become formalised entrepreneurs in the gemstone cutting and polishing sector.
Mr Chitepo said as they were also commemorating their 15th anniversary as YMF, they were going to award or recognise individuals who have been positively contributing to the mining sector in Zimbabwe.
“The young people are doing very well. We have got young people in gold, gemstones and other mining value chain activities whose operations have been performing very well and we will honour them,” he added.
“This is also a time for us to reflect, strategize and plan for our contribution towards the success of NDS 2 that was recently launched. So as we are going towards the 15th anniversary, we are also going to take the advantage to reflect and celebrate the achievements that the young people are doing.”
