5 perish in kombi, haulage truck crash

POLICE have released the names of the five people who died in a road traffic accident involving a commuter omnibus they were travelling in and a haulage truck along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road last Friday.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said eight other passengers sustained serious injuries in the crash.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of the victims who died in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 73km peg along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road on October 24.
“A haulage truck carrying a load of cement collided with a Toyota Hiace vehicle which had 12 passengers on board, hitting it from behind. As a result, five occupants from the Toyota Hiace, including the driver died. Eight others were sustained serious injuries and were taken to Murambinda Hospital for treatment.
“The bodies of the victims have been identified by their next of keen as follows: Takunda McGregor Ndoro, who was the kombi driver; Juliet Chikasha (58); Taurai Manyewu (51) (all of Harare); Juliet Makunike (25) of Mutare and Muzonda Marumbei (94) of Buhera,” he said.
Commissioner Nyathi urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads at all times.
