After an exciting showcase of music and dance talents through the Live in Bulawayo series, 50 Dates at the Theatre is taking a three-week break before returning with a fresh line-up of theatrical productions.

Curated by theatre veteran Saimon Mambazo Phiri as part of his 50th birthday celebrations, the programme kicked off on August 11 and runs until November 1 at the Bulawayo Theatre.

The recently concluded Live in Bulawayo series featured an impressive roster of performers, including Sunduza Dance Theatre, Afro-pop sensation Butholezwe, rising star Macala, Lemoniq, Bryce DJ Klasiq, Ezimnyama Dance Ensemble, The Apostle: Dumi Mhlanga, Rainbow Blaze Marimba, Kaykid Umfanomsotho, and Kwaito stars Guluva 7 and Mawiza, among others.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Mambazo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support.
“Like everything new, people are at first hesitant, but genuine excitement takes over. We are done with the Live in Bulawayo series, and we are happy with the manner in which people supported us.
“It’s safe to say that people are buying into this idea, and they are looking forward to the next 41 shows with great anticipation and curiosity,” he said.

The next phase will spotlight theatrical performances, with Mambazo revealing that preparations are already underway.
“We’re back in rehearsals, working tirelessly to perfect upcoming performances. The theatre segment will feature people’s favourites such as the classic Zambezi Express and Zwelethu, among other productions.”

He further praised the new generation of creatives for their passion for re-imagining timeless stories.
“It’s very encouraging to see young stars hungry to tell their own spin on classic productions. They’re putting in the work, and the results will be immaculate. The trick is simple: buy the tickets.”

Mambazo also extended an invitation to potential sponsors and partners to join hands in taking the initiative to greater heights.
