POLICE have impounded over 80 unregistered vehicles without number plates in Zvishavane and Mberengwa as part of an ongoing nationwide operation to restore order and enhance road safety.

The crackdown is targeting private cars and public transport vehicles to enhance security and improve road safety.
Police urged motorists to comply with registration regulations to avoid being impounded.

Speaking during a media briefing, Officer Commanding police in Zvishavane District, Chief Superintendent Enoch Chishiri said the enforcement exercise targets all categories of vehicles, including private, company, Government and public service vehicles.

This follows concerns over their use in criminal activities.

“The operation covers all categories of vehicles, including private family cars, company vehicles, Government vehicles and public service vehicles, “ he said.

Chief Supt Chishiri said unmarked vehicles have been linked to various crimes, including armed robberies, kidnappings, hit-and-run accidents, and traffic offences such as driving against traffic flow, driving through red lights and lane violations.

“We urge all motorists to co-operate with us during this operation to maintain law and order,” he said.

Just before the recent Easter holiday, Officer Commanding Police in the Midlands Province Commissioner Partson Nyabadza said they were highly concerned with lawlessness on the road, drug and substance abuse and crime during holidays.

He warned members of the public against carrying large sums of money in both vehicles and in person.
