WHEN Simba Bhora won the 2024 Castle Lager Premiership championship, it was not only a victory for their fans but for the Albino Society as well.
It was an historic feat as they became the first team from Mashonaland Central to win the championship.
The team’s medic, Mathata Makgakga, also became the first albino to win the league title.
Makgakga was also part of this team when they won the ZIFA Northern Region Division One marathon three seasons ago.
Triangle’s Ashual Chikandiwa, who is also an albino, won the Chibuku Super in 2018 with the Chiredzi side.
Makgakga was roped in by club owner Simba Ndoro when he was working at a hospital in Shamva.
But, it never occurred to him that he would play a key role and win the championship with Simba Bhora.
“When I first joined this club, it was a dream come true because everyone in Shamva wants to be associated with this club, and when the opportunity came, I just grabbed it without thinking twice.
“In my entire life, I never imagined myself winning the championship or being a member of any PSL team.
“I never gave myself a chance and I can’t believe my name will be remembered as part of the squad that has made history with Simba Bhora.
“The environment has been very kind to me and I can not thank Ndoro enough for giving someone like me and everyone within the team a chance to be part of his project,” said Makgakga.
