MORE than 300 delegates are expected in Victoria Falls today for the official opening of the inaugural Zimbabwe Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF) Global Summit, with Acting President Dr Kembo Mohadi set to officiate.
The summit enters its third day with the spotlight shifting towards the green economy, climate change, digitalisation and the changing nature of work.
It is being held under the theme “Inclusive Growth, Decent Work, Beneficiation and Investment Promotion”.
The five-day high-level gathering has brought together Government, employers, and international stakeholders to explore strategies for sustainable economic growth and employment creation.
The day’s programme will place particular emphasis on how Zimbabwe can harness green growth and sustainable investment to create jobs while building resilience to climate change.
Energy and Power Development Minister July Moyo and Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resource Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka are expected to lead a session examining climate change, green growth and sustainable investment.
They will be joined by Environment, Climate and Wildlife Minister Dr Evelyn Ndlovu, South African Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, Consumer Council of Zimbabwe Acting Executive Director Rosemary Mpofu and representatives of regional and international economic and social councils.
Discussions are expected to cover renewable energy, energy transition, climate-resilient agriculture and financing mechanisms for sustainable investment.
The emergence of green industries is also expected to raise questions around skills development and the future of employment, particularly as technological advances and changing production systems reshape the labour market.
Digitalisation will form another key component of the discussions, with policymakers and social partners expected to examine its implications for employers and workers.
The focus builds on deliberations held during the first two days of the summit, which addressed employment creation, social protection, informal-sector formalisation and skills development.
The TNF platform brings together Government, business and labour to engage on national socio-economic policies, with the summit providing a broader platform for international perspectives on the future of work and inclusive development.
For Zimbabwe, the discussions come at a time when the country is seeking to attract investment while strengthening domestic production, employment opportunities and climate resilience.
The participation of regional and international policymakers is expected to add a comparative dimension to discussions on sustainable investment, employment and economic transformation.
With the official opening scheduled for today, attention will now turn to the policy direction and commitments emerging from the summit as stakeholders seek to translate social dialogue into practical measures for workers, businesses and the wider economy.
The TNF Global Summit continues in Victoria Falls this week, with further sessions expected to examine issues affecting Zimbabwe’s economic and labour landscape.
