UNITED State-based Afro-pop singer, Julian King, has been appointed CEO of Accounting Advantage, a firm specialising in tax planning and accounting services.
The versatile artist last performed in Zimbabwe at the Kadoma Music Festival last year.
He has also invested heavily in academics, which now serves as a robust fall-back plan.
Speaking to Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub from his base in the United States, the “One by One” hit-maker could not hide his excitement following his appointment.
“It’s a blessing and a huge responsibility at the same time to be appointed CEO.
“Navigating business in a tough industry and foreign country is no easy task.
“I am looking forward to the opportunities that come with the announcement as well,” he said.
When asked how he managed to land the top post, Julian King said:
“It can only be God’s grace, the desire to excel, and being surrounded by supportive and loving friends and family.” A holder of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Strategy and Entrepreneurship, he also spoke about the importance of education among creatives.
He noted, however, that education is not for everyone, as people’s gifts differ.
“No one’s life is the same. One’s path isn’t a reflection of what everyone should do.
“The path of education is not everyone’s but if artists can invest their resources in other areas, that is always a wise and privileged position to be in.
“I don’t want to sound like I have it all figured out because jobs and businesses are very volatile.”
He added:
“Education has opened certain doors of opportunity and shaped my mindset.
“There is a business side to music, and I’ve been able to maneuver that better.”
With his demanding schedule as a musician and company CEO, he conceded that balancing the two is challenging.
“One of the two will always have less of me and, unfortunately for now, that has been music.
“To be in a creative disposition after a long business day takes a lot.”
Outlining his plans for the first half of this year, he said there will be a lot of focus on the business he now leads.
“I will try to secure funding for our operations, as it’s not easy for a foreigner in the USA to grow our team and expand our presence in the country.
“I will also release some music, as usual.”
He said Accounting Advantage LLC was founded by Laure Wiernik-Neitzel.
In June 1991, Laure started providing part-time tax planning and preparation services, as well as accounting services, to business and individual clients.
In May 2014, she expanded and moved her business into its current downtown Wisconsin Rapids location, becoming Accounting Advantage LLC.
Julian King is now the firm’s CEO.
He is not the only local artist, with a strong educational background, who has a base in a foreign country.
He is joined by the likes of Enock “Nox” Guni and Daniel Mazhandu, aka Decibel, who studied biochemistry at NUST in Bulawayo.
