President Mnangagwa has urged farmers to harness the transformative power of agriculture and technology to drive productivity and accelerate the country’s journey towards Vision 2030.
Speaking at the official opening of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show in Harare today, President Mnangagwa said the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show provides an important platform for farmers, bankers and young innovators to interact and explore opportunities for the growth of the agricultural sector.
“These grounds of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society provide a vital platform where bankers and farmers can interact, explore opportunities, and discuss innovative credit schemes that can support agricultural production and growth,” he said.
“They also provide an important space where our young people can showcase their innovations, skills, talents, and capabilities, demonstrating that the future of our agricultural sector lies not only in our fields, but also in the ingenuity of our people.”
The President said the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) provides for the accelerated implementation of Vision 2030, with agriculture and technology expected to play a key role in driving national development.
“The National Development Strategy 2 provides for the accelerated implementation of Vision 2030,” he said.
“As we pursue this national vision, we must continue to harness the transformative power of agriculture and technology to drive productivity, create opportunities, empower our citizens, and build a prosperous and empowered Zimbabwe.
“It is pleasing to note that under NDS1, we laid a strong foundation for accelerated economic growth and development, resulting in the implementation of key national milestones.”
President Mnangagwa said one of the achievements under NDS1 was the restoration and strengthening of the country’s strategic grain reserves, which he said were critical to safeguarding national food security.
“Among these achievements was the restoration and strengthening of our strategic grain reserves, which are critical to safeguarding our national food security,” he said.
“In the 2025 tobacco marketing season, our country recorded tobacco production with a market value of US$198 million. I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our farmers who contributed to this important achievement.”
He commended farmers for their contribution to the agricultural sector and urged them to focus on increasing production and expanding value chains.
“Your hard work, resilience and commitment continue to demonstrate the vital role that agriculture plays in the growth and development of our nation,” he said.
“I therefore urge our farmers to continue expanding their value chains, increasing productivity and improving the quality and volume of their harvests so that we can adequately feed our nation while generating greater economic value.”
