All systems go for Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk

Sunday News Reporter

ZIMBABWE’S fight against cancer receives another major boost this week when Zimpapers hosts the 2026 Cancer Power Walk. With just days remaining before Zimbabwe’s biggest corporate-led cancer awareness and fundraising event, Zimpapers has announced that all systems are in place for the flagship corporate social responsibility initiative.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, under the theme, “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

The annual event will simultaneously take place in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Gweru, Chinhoyi and

Masvingo, bringing together communities, corporates, health practitioners, cancer survivors,

families and supporters in a united fight against cancer.

Participants will have the option to walk, run or cycle, with proceeds from the event being

channelled towards supporting cancer care through Island Hospice and Healthcare, one of

Zimbabwe’s leading providers of palliative and end-of-life care services.

Speaking ahead of the event, Zimpapers Group Chief Executive Officer Mr William Chikoto said all

logistical arrangements had been finalised and urged Zimbabweans from all walks of life to

participate in the noble cause.

“We are excited that all is now in place for the 2026 Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk. This initiative

has continued to grow because Zimbabweans understand that cancer affects families, communities

and workplaces. Through this event, we are not only raising awareness but also mobilising

resources to support those affected by cancer,” said Mr Chikoto.

“Cancer remains one of the most significant health challenges facing our society. We therefore call

upon corporates, organisations and individuals to join us in this important cause. Every participant

and every contribution helps make a difference in someone’s life.”

Mr Chikoto expressed gratitude to the growing number of partners and sponsors that have come on

board to support the event.

“We are deeply grateful to all our sponsors and partners whose generosity continues to make this

initiative possible. Their support demonstrates the power of collaboration in driving positive health

outcomes and social impact. Together, we are building hope for patients and families battling

cancer.”

Among organisations supporting this year’s event are FBC Holdings Limited, the event’s Diamond

Partner, as well as POSB, the National Employment Council for the Printing, Packaging and

Newspaper Industry (NEC), Gainzim, Valley Visions, LinkShield, National Blood Services

Zimbabwe, Rugare Medical Aid Society, Health Professions Authority Zimbabwe, Lobels Bread,

Zimnat, Ecobank, Harare Oncology, Karorina’s Wellness Spa, Puma, Forestry Commission, Sir

Charles, Zorro, Skyz Metro FM, Beyond Events, LC Shipping and several other stakeholders who

have rallied behind the cause.

In addition to the walk, there is a line-up of free health screening and wellness services, giving

participants an opportunity to undergo health checks and receive valuable health information from

medical professionals.

The health checks are expected to include cancer awareness consultations and other basic wellness

assessments aimed at encouraging early detection and healthy lifestyles.

Companies are encouraged to register teams and use the event as an opportunity to promote

employee wellness while supporting a worthy national cause.

“We encourage corporates to sponsor participants, register staff teams and partner with us in

expanding the reach of this initiative. Fighting cancer is a collective responsibility and together we

can save lives through awareness, early detection and improved access to care,” said Mr Chikoto.

Participants have also been urged to sign up and invite family members, friends and colleagues to

take part using the online platform

The participation fee is US$15, while children under the age of 12 will attend free of charge.

Island Hospice and Healthcare Executive Director Dr Ngoni Nyambawaro said the walk had

become an important vehicle for raising awareness and mobilising support for cancer patients

across the country.

“At Island Hospice and Healthcare, we see first-hand the physical, emotional and financial toll that

cancer takes on patients and their families. The Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk is not merely a

fundraising event, but a national call for action and solidarity. We commend Zimpapers and its

partners for creating a platform that is helping to save lives through awareness, education, early

detection and support for patient care.”

“Cancer knows no borders, professions or social status. Every dollar raised, every participant

registered and every conversation started about cancer awareness brings us one step closer to

improving lives and strengthening the support available to patients and their families. Let us fill the

streets on November 7 and send a vibrant message that Zimbabwe stands united against cancer.

Together, we can ensure that no one faces the cancer journey alone,” said Dr Nyambawaro.

As the countdown to November 7 gathers momentum, all roads lead to the Zimpapers Cancer

Power Walk, where Zimbabweans will once again unite in hope, compassion and determination to

support those impacted by cancer.
