Annex residents in Mbare go without water for a week

RESIDENTS of Annex in Mbare have raised concern over a prolonged water shortage, saying they have gone without water for the past week.

The residents said water supplies have been inconsistent, with low pressure preventing water from reaching their homes.

Contacted for comment, Ward 4 Mbare Councillor Boniface Maburutse said someone built on the original council sewer line in Zebra mall.

“The sewer line is supposed to make everything flow properly. It goes through Chicken Slice and supplies Muzarabani where there are two big manholes,” he said.

“Council said it would divert the sewer line coming from Rufaro Stadium, Mbare Police and Tagarika flats.

“Repairs to it were not completed. So when they try to fix it, the sewer only works for a short while and it then flows into people’s houses.

“But water is available from council and Presidential boreholes. The challenge that we have so far are superintendents from Harare water sewer section especially one called Mamvura. He doesn’t answer his phone.”

He said during the pas weekend, there was a sewer burst and sewer was getting into people’s houses.

“We had agreed that we put a new connection to the line. They attend where they are given money,” he claimed.

“We cannot do that because we don’t have the money.”

Cllr Maburutse said residents from New Lines pay their rates on time unlike those from Mbare hostels.
