AFRO tech dance group Asante Mo has finally had their hardwork and determination pay off after they clinched their first nomination at this year’s Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA).

The group is nominated in the Outstanding Alternative Music category and will face off Ma9Nine, Bhila, Black Diva, Matojeni Melow Maniacs, Abigail Mabuza, Bhekiwe and Dziba Lemvula.

Asante Mo has members namely Bekithemba Phiri, Makhosi Mlotshwa, Leeroy Tshuma, Aaron Chikondawanga and Newman Trindad Gondwe.

Gondwe said since being established in 2019, the group has been working hard to make their art known and appreciated.

“The people that we are nominated with are the Bulawayo’s finest which shows we are in a good direction cause the path that we chose is a bit different with other arts groups so to us its a win to be recognised in our city. To be recognised by Bulawayo on its own l think it’s big.

“We feel humbled and stocked up. Recognition fuels our fire. It shows we’re resonating with people and contributing to the cultural vibe,” said Gondwe.

He said they will continue to develop their art to reach international markets.

“We’re innovating Afro-fusion sounds and movements, blending tradition with modernity. We’re inspiring conversations and collaborations._

“If we are to win this, we’d take it as a blessing and affirmation of our journey so far. It’d push us to greater heights, inspire our craft, team, and community,” said Damian.
