At least 18 dead as kombi explodes

More than 18 people have been killed after a commuter omnibus they were travelling in exploded between Chipangali and Gwanda tollgate along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road this Thursday afternoon.

The cause of the explosion is yet to be established as investigations are in progress.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“The ZRP reports the death of plus or minus 18 people when a kombi exploded into fire between Chipangali and Gwanda tollgate along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road between 1300 hours and 1400 hours today. More details will be released in due course,” he said.
