AWARD-WINNING wheel-spinner DJ Mzoe has revealed that this year’s edition of the August Shelling festival will be focusing on uniting and accommodating children from all walks of life as they come together to celebrate the month of August.
The festival will be held at the Chigumira shopping centre open grounds in Luveve on August 30.
Established in 2023, the festival’s idea was crafted to bring together August born Bulawayo creatives and music lovers alike, as they celebrate life through a single bash.

The mastermind of the festival DJ Mzoe, who was also born in August said, it was a bit selfish to organise an event, which celebrates only adults born in August, he then added a touch of also accommodating children as part of the festivities.
“This event started as my birthday celebration. I invited other artistes and fans who were born in August like me, to come together and host a single party. Many people fell in love with the idea as the response was overwhelming on our first edition in 2023.

“The following year, I decided to officially launch the movement as a festival fused with a touch of a family fun vibes so as to accommodate both adults and children.
“As adults, we can have fun and party even at night but kids need a special environment that is clean and safe for them to play. Hence, we then re-focused the festival to a model that cultivates a culture of parents and their children spending quality time,” said DJ Mzoe.

He said the activities that will be available for kids at the festival are hungry hippo, jumping castle, fireworks display, trampoline, horse rides, quad bikes, clown face paint, kids car ride, candy floss, karaoke and slides.
Later on, a gig will be held at a local night spot in Luveve where adults will gather to have fun while celebrating their birthday month through music and dance.
“This event is ideal and economic to parents as it saves them from spending so much on celebrating their child’s birthday alone. When August babies come together, it promotes a sense of togetherness and a tight bond within the kids as they celebrate their birthdays on one day.
“Adults will also have their own fun later on as we will be taking the celebrations to a local night spot in Luveve. We will have artistes born in August providing us with entertainment including Novuyo Seagirl and Dr Jutar,” said DJ Mzoe.
