In a time when many young people are facing uncertainty about the future and increasing pressure to succeed, a local author is encouraging individuals to approach life with greater intentionality, preparation and vision.

Through his newly published book, “Plan Before You Start”, educator and entrepreneur Chikomborero Basil Chiboyi is calling on people to embrace planning as an essential tool for personal growth, leadership and transformation.

The book, which is set to be officially launched in Harare next month, presents practical lessons on mind-set, discipline, resilience and purpose-driven living.

“Plan Before You Start” explores the idea that success does not happen by accident, but is often built through deliberate decisions, strategic preparation, and consistent action. The publication speaks directly to students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, families and individuals trying to navigate life in environments where opportunities may appear limited.

Rather than focusing on perfection or immediate success, the book emphasises starting with what one already has and developing the discipline to move forward step by step.

In an interview ahead of the launch, Chiboyi explained that the inspiration behind the book came from observing how many people possess talent, vision and potential but often lack guidance, direction, or confidence to take the next step. “The book is about using what you have, thinking ahead, and moving with intention. It’s not necessarily about having every detail figured out, but about understanding your next step and making it count,” he said.

He added that many individuals spend years waiting for perfect conditions before taking action, yet meaningful progress often begins with preparation and small intentional decisions. “In uncertain environments, people who plan do not simply wait for opportunities to appear — they position themselves for them. Opportunities often come unexpectedly, and when they do, preparation makes the difference,” Chiboyi said.

The message of intentional planning comes at a time when conversations around youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, education, and personal development continue to grow across Zimbabwe and beyond.

For many young people, navigating issues such as unemployment, financial instability, and career uncertainty can be overwhelming. According to Chiboyi, planning provides clarity and helps individuals remain focused even during difficult circumstances.

The book explores several themes including mindset transformation, leadership, resilience, discipline, consistency, and personal development. It also addresses the realities faced by people operating in competitive environments with limited access to resources and opportunities.

For Chiboyi, planning extends beyond writing goals on paper. He believes it begins with changing one’s mindset and developing the discipline to think intentionally about the future.

The author’s background in education and entrepreneurship has played a major role in shaping the message of the book.

Chiboyi is a private STEM tutor and founder of Grandcrest Horizon (Pvt) Ltd, an organisation focused on creating sustainable opportunities for young people. Through mentorship programmes, public speaking initiatives and youth development projects, he has continued to advocate for purposeful and intentional living.

He is also co-founder of The Box Nutrition Solutions Private Limited, further reflecting his interest in innovation, business development, and community impact.

According to organisers, the official launch of “Plan Before You Start” is expected to attract entrepreneurs, professionals, students, community leaders, and individuals passionate about growth and self-improvement. Beyond introducing the book, the event aims to create a platform for meaningful discussions around leadership, vision, transformation, and empowerment.

The launch will feature distinguished guest speakers including author and community empowerment advocate Chipo Tracyhappy Munjeri, whose work has focused on mentorship, education and social impact initiatives.

Academic and leadership expert Dr Lucia Nkomo will also be among the guest speakers expected to address attendees during the event.

Organisers say the gathering is designed to create an atmosphere of inspiration, learning, and networking, particularly for young people seeking guidance and encouragement in their personal and professional journeys.

Activities during the event will include inspirational talks, networking opportunities, raffle draws, audience engagement sessions, and auctions of signed copies of the book.

The official launch is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026 at The Nexus, located on the first floor of Batanai Mall at the corner of First Street and Jason Moyo Avenue in Harare.

As conversations around personal development and youth empowerment continue to gain momentum, “Plan Before You Start” enters the space as both a motivational and practical guide aimed at helping individuals think beyond present circumstances and begin building intentional futures.

For many readers, the book’s central message may resonate deeply — that regardless of one’s starting point, a purposeful life can still be built through preparation, vision, consistency, and the willingness to take the next step forward.
