A quiet walk home turned into a nightmare when a man was brutally attacked with an axe in the dead of night!
A 25-year-old man from Inyathi is in serious trouble after allegedly striking another man three times on the head with an axe in a chilling attack.
Nqobizitha Gobi of Village 4, Dromoland, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira, facing attempted murder charges.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to March 25 for trial.
The court heard that the victim, Innocent Moyo, an artisanal miner at Waterwitch Mine, was simply heading home when horror struck.
Prosecutor Jethro Mada told the court that on February 28, at around 9PM, Moyo was walking home when Gobi allegedly emerged from the darkness armed with a small axe.
In a terrifying moment, the accused allegedly said nothing and suddenly launched a vicious attack.
He allegedly struck Moyo three times on the back of the head with the axe before fleeing the scene.
Bleeding and shaken, the victim managed to report the matter to the police at Inyathi.
He was then rushed to Inyathi District Hospital for medical examination.
But the drama didn’t end there.
The following day, around 10AM, Moyo reportedly spotted his attacker walking freely along the road.
He quickly alerted members of the public, who sprang into action, apprehending Gobi and taking him straight to the police.
