THE father of the late Star FM presenter Babongile Sikhonjwa says he was overwhelmed by the show of support which the family received during his son’s funeral.
Babo was buried at his rural home in Mlowezi, about 86kms from Bulawayo on the Gwanda Road.
He left behind his wife and two children.
His father, Nicholas Moyo, said he was overwhelmed by the number of people who came to lay his son to rest.
“I am shocked by the numbers of people that I see here today. There are different kinds of you who came from different walks of life and those from the diaspora who left everything to come and say goodbye to my son.
“My son was, indeed, a unifier, from the Amphitheatre to here at home, you guys have been amazing and I am sure that Babongile is happy and content with the people who came here at his final resting place.
“My son took a lot from me. When I was an active master of ceremony, I think he was watching and taking down the notes.
“He perfected what he took from me and that afforded him a great life and connected him with different people among you. I will miss him dearly.”
His brother Badumisile Moyo said:
“He was more than a brother to me. I would tell him all my problems and what I go through in life because he had a warm and open heart.
“Now that he is gone, I am left with no one I can share jokes and heavy laughs with.
“My brother surely lived his life his own way and I hope he is in a better place.”
Babo’s daughter Gugulethu said:
“My father taught me patience. He gave me a garden at home and encouraged me to plant and cultivate it.
“He said I must monitor the growth of my plants as they will teach me hope and patience. I love my dad and he will always stay closer to my heart.”
