HAIRY Man Utd fan Frank Illett was left speechless as his near 500-day wait for a haircut went on.
The bloke with THE barnet was hoping for a win against West Ham on Tuesday night.
Illett had promised to only cut his crazy locks when his beloved United won five games on the bounce.
Interim Michael Carrick led the Red Devils to four wins on the spin before tonight’s visit to the London Stadium.
And Illett had the clippers ready as he did a live watch-along in front of an audience of over 150,000 people – with the stream shooting up to 265,000 viewers at full-time.
But his dream of a fresh trim faded when United were held to a 1-1 draw in the East End.
Tomas Soucek’s 50th minute strike left Illett speechless as he comprehended more time with his mazy mane.
The Red Devils fan had thought the spell was near to being broken when Casemiro equalised for his side.
But the Brazilian’s goal was ruled out by VAR, crushing Illett’s hopes in the process.
There was a flicker of hope at the end when Benjamin Sesko netted a beauty for United with a minute of stoppage time left.
However, it proved to be too late as the Hammers held on at home.
Illett was left with his head in his hands following the dramatic ending.
He shook his giant afro in dismay as the realisation set in before defiantly declaring: “I’m committed too far to just give up now.”
And United will now have to go for five in a row again before the clippers can come out.
They have the chance to restart the clock next Monday with a trip to Everton.u
But it remains to be seen how much longer Illett’s hair gets, having already gone nearly two years without seeing a barber’s chair.
He last had his hair cut in October 2024, vowing to grow it until United won five on the spin.
Just a year later, Illett’s hair had grown by over 18cm.
And he attracted a huge online following in the process.
500 days in, Illett’s hair has now expanded by a whopping 25cm.
However, he claims his bank account has not grown in similar strength.
Illett exclusively told SunSport: “I’m definitely not the millionaire that some people think I am. There’s been a lot of talk about making millions, but that isn’t the case.
“It’s not as well paid as some people think. But that’s not why I started it in the first place.”
Reflecting on the troubles of having such a huge barnet, he added: “The real pain has been not being able to see properly. It’s actually lucky that I wear glasses because the frames kind of prop my fringe up a bit.
“I can hardly see most of the time now. It needs to get gone.” – Sun
