The Bambadzi community in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South Province, has appealed for support to establish a sports and arts recreational hub that will provide young people and the wider community with opportunities to engage in sporting and creative activities.
The initiative is being driven by residents in collaboration with the local council and traditional leadership.
The proposed hub is expected to provide a platform for young people to pursue careers in sport and the creative industry while helping to address drug and substance abuse in the community.
The community recently held a meeting to discuss measures to help establish the cultural centre.
During the meeting, Headman Mbimba was presented with a sculpture created by one of the key drivers of the initiative, versatile artiste The Big Animal Sibanjana Junior.
Ward 10 Councillor Sikhumbuzo Dube said he had started formal processes to secure land for the construction of the recreational and cultural centre.
“As the councillor, I have raised a motion at the council chambers on the setting up of the cultural centre in Mbimba and we are pushing so that this project becomes a reality.
“In the meantime, as the community, we have started sourcing resources to ensure that construction takes place,” said Clr Dube.
The Big Animal Sibanjana Junior said they were appealing to stakeholders to support the project, which he said would bring positive change to the community.
“As a community, we feel a cultural centre will be about positivity among young people and the whole society. We are appealing for support from Government, churches and donors in order to see the construction of the project,” he said.
