FRESH from finally smashing their winless jinx, Highlanders FC are charging into a blockbuster showdown against table-topping giants CAPS United FC in a mouth-watering “Battle of the Cities” that promises fireworks this Sunday.
The Bulawayo heavyweights go into the clash with tails up after a dramatic derby comeback victory over Chicken Inn FC, a result that not only sent the Bosso faithful into delirium but also handed coach Benjani Mwaruwari his long-awaited first win of the season after seven successive draws.
But the Bosso boss is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
“This is going to be a completely different game,” cautioned Mwaruwari. “CAPS United are on top for a reason. We have to stay focused, disciplined, and improve even more.”
And he has every reason to be wary.
Makepekepe are not just riding high—they are loaded with firepower and flair. Former Bosso star Bruce Kangwa will be out to haunt his old club, while the ever-dangerous Obriel Chirinda lurks with his predatory instincts in front of goal.
In midfield, the gifted duo of Richard Hachiro and Bret Amidu provide creativity, steel, and attacking spark.
Pulling the strings from the dugout is championship-winning tactician Takesure Chiragwi, a man who knows exactly how to grind out results and keep his side ticking at the summit.
“Yes, the win was important for us,” Mwaruwari admitted. “It gave the players confidence, but we are not there yet. We need consistency. We must fight in every game. CAPS are leading and we have to be good and work hard.”
Sunday’s clash is more than just three points, it’s pride, history, and city bragging rights on the line.
Bulawayo versus Harare. Black and white versus green and white. Form versus resurgence.
The stage is set. The giants are ready.
And when Bosso meet Makepekepe, expect nothing but pure football drama.
Still licking their wounds from a bruising derby defeat, Chicken Inn are thrown straight back into the fire as they collide with city rivals Bulawayo Chiefs FC in yet another high-voltage showdown at Barbourfields Stadium. No time to breathe, only time to fight.
Elsewhere, Hunters will be out to defend their turf when they host a determined Triangle United, while Manica Diamonds brace for a tricky dance against impressive Hardrock at Greenfuel Arena.
All eyes will also be on Norton, where Ngoni Stadium becomes a battlefield as ambitious MWOS FC lock horns with defending champions Scottland FC in a clash dripping with tension and title implications.
Over in Mhondoro, it’s a test of muscle and mentality as Ngezi Platinum Stars FC go toe-to-toe with Agama FC at Baobab Stadium.
Meanwhile, the ever-charismatic Mandla Mpofu, fondly known as “Lulu”, will be rallying his troops as Simba Bhora square off against giants FC Platinum in what promises to be a bruising encounter at Wadzanayi Stadium.
And to wrap up the weekend drama, the giants of the capital, Dynamos, will host ZPC Kariba on Sunday in a clash that could shake up the standings.
Fasten your seatbelts, Week Nine is here, and it’s bringing pure football chaos! —@FungaiMuderer
