WHEN Highlanders and CAPS United collide, it’s never just a game, it’s a war of pride between Bulawayo and Harare, a clash dripping with history, tension, and unforgettable moments.

Today’s blockbuster showdown comes with both giants knowing exactly what’s at stake and if past meetings are anything to go by, fans are in for another thriller.

The recent head-to-head record paints a picture of two evenly matched heavyweights trading blows season after season. Back in 2019, CAPS United edged Bosso 2-1 after a goalless draw in the reverse fixture. When they met again in 2022, the spoils were shared once more before Highlanders struck back with a 2-1 victory.

The rivalry only intensified in 2023, with Highlanders claiming a 2-1 win away before the two sides settled for a 1-1 stalemate in the return leg. In 2024, Bosso flexed their muscle with a convincing 2-0 triumph, but CAPS United responded in style, snatching a thrilling 3-2 victory in the reverse clash.

Last season summed it all up, deadly balance. Bosso edged the first encounter 1-0, only for CAPS United to return the favour with an identical score line.

No dominance. No clear favourite. Just pure football rivalry at its finest.

Now, the script adds another twist.

The Bulawayo football giants come into the tie fresh from a morale-boosting derby 3-1 victory over Chicken Inn, their confidence surging at just the right time.

“It was now due that we get a win this season after seven games without getting it. We just need to remain together as a team. CAPS United are leading meaning that we will also need to be good to match them. Its going to be a different game altogether,” said Bosso gaffer Benjani Mwaruwari.

Makepekepe, meanwhile, sit proudly at the top of the table, oozing consistency and belief.

It’s form versus momentum, log leaders versus a wounded giant finding its roar again!

From Barbourfields to the National Sports Stadium, this fixture has delivered drama, goals, and heartbreak in equal measure and today promises more of the same.

One thing is guaranteed, when Bosso and Makepekepe lock horns, history doesn’t just matter.

This afternoon is not just another matchday, it’s a collision course of form, history and personal rivalries a showdown dripping with intrigue.

On paper, the contrast couldn’t be sharper.

Bosso’s form line reads DDDDDDDW, a frustrating string of draws finally snapped by that long-awaited victory, a result that could spark a revival.

Makepekepe have been flying high with a red-hot WWWWLWDW run, a surge that has powered them to the summit with 19 points from just eight matches.

But this is no ordinary clash, it’s also a story of two men with a shared past.

Back in 2022 at Ngezi Platinum Stars, Mwaruwari walked away from the dugout after his final game in charge, handing over the reins to his assistant none other than Takesure Chiragwi.

Fast forward to now, and the script has flipped dramatically.

Mwaruwari is rebuilding a wounded giant at Highlanders and has just tasted his first win after a string of draws, while Chiragwi has transformed CAPS United into a ruthless, table-topping machine.

Question: What will happen at Emagumeni this afternoon?

Answer: Only time will tell.

In another fixture scheduled for this afternoon, former champions Dynamos will play host to ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium.
