A 25-YEAR-OLD man failed to contain his thirst for the wise waters and turned into a violent robber. Silvester Sande slinked into Hanyani shop at Mukunza Business Centre in Nyanga on 12 April 2025 around 6PM, a court heard.
He grabbed a quart of Black Label beer, opened it without paying, and attempted to walk out. When shopkeeper Techla Musona tried to stop him, the offender became aggressive and a Good Samaritan tried to contain him.
Finhai Mhuruyengwe (45) stepped in to prevent the violence, but Sande turned on him, striking him twice on the left leg with a farm brick before fleeing the scene.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
Sande was convicted and sentenced to 22 months imprisonment. Sixteen months were suspended while the remaining six months were also suspended on condition he completes 560 hours of community service.
“We urge members of the public to desist from senseless violent acts because they have serious consequences. Violence does not solve anything,” said the NPAZ.
