Black Coffee speaks out after divorce finalisation

South African Grammy-winning DJ and producer Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, has finally broken his silence following the confirmation of his divorce from actress and fashion designer Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa.

The news of their divorce being officially finalised after six years of separation was first shared by Enhle last week. Taking to social media, she expressed gratitude for her journey and those who stood by her during the long and emotional process.

“Today with great emotion I write this. I am officially Miss Mlotshwa. I’m so grateful for this ugly journey that gave me so many lessons. Today God has laid a table for me . . .” she wrote.

Enhle went on to acknowledge her legal team, crediting them for their relentless support.

“I am so thankful to the people you see in this image.

‘‘These lawyers, advocates and senior attorneys have pushed me and reminded me of the greatness I had in me, reminded me how important it was to fight, most importantly for my children and more so for the rights of women in South Africa,” she added.

Soon after, Black Coffee took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the public reaction surrounding the divorce.

The internationally acclaimed DJ hit back at those who seemed to celebrate or scrutinise the news and made a heartfelt request for privacy, especially regarding his children.

He wrote, “I understand that you people believe everything you read, and that’s fine.

‘‘As a father, I have one request. Please stop posting my children on your socials.”

While some users supported his plea, others offered mixed reactions.

@NwayitelO responded, “Fair enough, and as much as you want your privacy respected, maybe start by keeping your children’s life off the internet too.

‘‘You can’t pick and choose when the spotlight suits you.”

Another user, @Lord_GT15, warned that, “The unfortunate thing is that the people to whom this is directed are likely to be fuelled to do worse by this message.”

However, @EnerVest_ sympathised with the DJ, saying, “I respect that, especially because you attend special ceremonies with your children like music awards where the media is all over and your pictures get posted before you do – leaving you with no choice but to have your family’s images on socials.”

One user, @ProNkosinathi, advised Black Coffee to handle such sensitive posts differently: “Next time King, when posting such a sensitive issue, please disable the comments so that all these attention-seeking no-name brands cannot comment.

‘‘All you’re asking for is just privacy for your kids.” – OK
