Blow for Zimbabwe football. . . As CAF order association to play next home game behind closed doors

Zimpapers Sports Hub

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on Monday received a huge blow after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ordered them to play the next match behind closed doors.

The decision by the CAF disciplinary committee is based on the stampede that occured outside the stadium, resulting in the death of a fan before the match against DR Congo.

The AFCON qualifier, which ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors, marked a return to international football for the renovated National Sports Stadium.

The CAF Disciplinary Committee will also fine the association for the incidences that included pitch invasion at that 28 September match.

The directive to play behind closed doors will come as a big blow for ZIFA given the costs that come with hosting the national team.
