MACAULAY BONNE walked into the Warriors camp with the look of a man who has waited a long time to feel this moment again.
The Charlton Athletic striker is back with the national team after a long spell out of the picture.
And he says the pull of home never faded.
He has been working to earn this return, driven by the belief that he still has something meaningful to give the Warriors.
He spoke openly about that hunger as he settled into coach Marian Mario Marinica’s provisional squad.
“Honestly, I love my country,” he said. “To play for Zimbabwe at the highest level is an honour I could not turn my back on.
“We have so much yet to achieve, and I strongly believe we can do it.”
He said being back feels right, and he wants to play his part as the team steps into a new chapter.
“It’s an honour to be part of this journey with the team, and I hope I can give everything I have to help the team secure success.”
Bonne added that the atmosphere around the squad reminded him why he fought to return.
“I love being home and everything about home.
‘‘I’m grateful for the warm welcome and atmosphere the fans and teammates have shown me so far.”
The forward, who has spent years playing in England, believes that experience can anchor the squad as it builds towards a stronger identity.
“I feel good experience and really helping becoming very one as a team to become a solid unit to hopefully build good results and push for success,” he said.
At 34, he wants his best years in national colours to start now.
“Personally, I want to see the national team reach new heights that haven’t been reached before,” he said.
“It’s a tough task at hand, but I believe it’s something that can be reached with all the hard work and dedication.
“My main focus is to bring everything I can to ensure the national team does well, as for anything else I am sure it can wait until the right time comes along to discuss future events.”
