HIGHLANDERS are 1-0 up at the break at Barbourfields after Melikhaya Ncube finished a slick move in the 31st minute to put Bosso ahead in their survival showdown against Manica Diamonds.

Ncube tapped home from close range after Andrew Mbeba whipped in a sharp cross from the right. The midfielder had first laid the ball to Mbeba instead of shooting, and the return delivery was perfect for the finish.

Bosso dominated the opening 45 minutes, pushing the Gem Boys back and piling pressure from the wings. Never Rauzhi was lively on both flanks, threatening early with a cross that was deflected for a corner and later skying a loose ball from a free kick.

Manica Diamonds had their moments but wasted them. Anelka Chivandire fired wide from distance in the fifth minute and Ariel Sibanda had to be alert shortly after, blocking Kudzanai Dhemere at close range.

Bosso nearly doubled their lead through Rauzhi again, but the chance fizzled after confusion in the box.

Chivandire tried to respond with a curling effort five minutes after the goal but dragged it wide, to the relief of a tense Emagumeni.
The battle is far from over.
