A 31-year-old woman from Esigodini is in serious trouble after she allegedly let her boyfriend go free following the rape of her baby daughter, simply because he promised to buy her a bed.
Abigail Nkomo from Khomani Village under Chief Sigola appeared before Esigodini Magistrate Menelisa Linda and was remanded in custody to today. She was not asked to plead.
Prosecutor Tashinga Victor Gorejena told the court that on an unknown date in December 2025 at around 8AM at Sikhalazo Moyo’s homestead in Khomani Village, Chief Gwebu area, Nkomo left her boyfriend Simon Ngulube in the bedroom with her 11-month-old daughter while she went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
During her absence, Ngulube allegedly abused the infant who is, by any standard, incapable of consenting to sexual activity.

The court heard that the matter was discovered when Nkomo returned to the bedroom and allegedly found Ngulube in the act.
Instead of reporting the matter to the police, Ngulube promised to buy her a bed in exchange for her silence.
Nkomo allegedly accepted the promise and allowed him to go free.
The shocking matter only came to light after Nkomo later discovered that her boyfriend was having a love affair with another woman.
Angered by the betrayal, she reported the rape to the police, leading to Ngulube’s arrest. He has since been placed on remand.
Investigations revealed that Nkomo had failed to report the offence immediately after being promised a bed set.
