THE Bulawayo Province Pool Association (BPPA) has put its weekend fixtures on hold amid revelations that the move is meant to pave way for the referees’ refresher course that will be held at Queens Sports Club on Saturday.
THE 2026 BPPA season for premier and districts leagues clubs started four weeks ago.
“There will be a mandatory referees refresher course on Saturday 28 March at Queens Sports Club. There will also be a session on the new playing format and games procedure manual. All clubs are to second at least two referees as well as club executive members. A question and answer session will be part of the deliberations,” said Richard Mutenda, who is the provincial pool referees coordinator.
He added: “The reason why we are having this seminar is because of rules. We have a number of new clubs that joined us as the league keeps growing but a lot people are yet to fully appreciate the Blackball rules that we use in our leagues.
“So as the referees coordinator, as a Class One Referee International, International Blackball Refreee and also International Heyball Referee, I saw it fit to conduct this seminar. We need to have more referees because here Matabeleland there has always been a shortage of referees.
“So this is a way of giving people a chance to write exams for Class Two certificate so that when Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) descends on us they will write exams for the Class One certificate and International Certificate. We want to keep on developing this game, we don’t to want to continue see players quarrelling. Since the games started four weeks ago, as the referees’ coordinator I have been reports on disputes.”
Meanwhile, a 32 men Bulawayo Elders Pool tournament will be played on Saturday at Royal Bar.
The playing format will be race to three and the starting of the contest will wait for elders that will be participating in the referees training.
Elsewhere, a Golden Pillars Alliance In-house tournament will be held on Saturday.
Six teams Exchange, Delta, Legacy, Guzzlers, Coca-Cola and Inyathi will seek to outdo each where Group A winners and Group B winners will face each in the final match.-@FungaiMuderere
