Brandy has broken her silence.
After she abruptly left the stage mid-performance and ended her concert with Monica early on Saturday, October 18, the singer, 46, spoke out about the ordeal in an October 19 Instagram post.
“Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and — most importantly — your prayers,” Brandy began.
“I sincerely apologise for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint. Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance,’’ she continued.
“I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts,” added the star.
Brandy was performing with Monica, 44, during their The Boy Is Mine Tour at the United Centre in Chicago when she walked offstage and did not return.
Monica sang the remainder of the set solo, and the audience was sent home without hearing the duo’s iconic track, ‘‘The Boy Is Mine.’’
Thanking Monica for how she handled the unexpected situation, Brandy wrote, ‘‘I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism, and to the entire crew for their continued care and support. I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward.’’
“Your understanding, patience, and unwavering belief mean the world to me. I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis,’’ Brandy concluded her post.
Monica reshared Brandy’s recent statement on her own Instagram Stories.
Videos shared on social media showed Brandy leaving the stage mid-performance. “Give me one second, y’all. I gotta get my . . .’’ the Grammy winner said, making her way offstage.
She did not return, however, and the audience did not receive an explanation as to why at the time.
Brandy and Monica announced their joint tour earlier this year, marking over two decades since the R&B stars topped the charts with their hit 1998 collaboration.
‘‘I see it as so much bigger than just a hit record,’’ Brandy told Essence earlier this month of the fan-favourite tune.
She added: ‘‘At the time, it was two young women coming together, bringing our voices and our stories into one moment — and the world connected with it in a way we couldn’t have imagined. To see how that song connected with people all over the world — and still does — is such a blessing.’’ – People
