A BRAVE sister is the talk of the town after she used an umbrella to chase away a monster who was trying to poke her sibling!

The nine-year-old victim was allegedly saved from a nightmare by her quick-thinking 15-year-old sister when a man tried to force himself on her on New Year’s Day.

Nkosikhona Sibanda (30) from Huntman Plots, Peri-Urban, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mark Dzira on Tuesday facing charges of attempted rape.

The court heard how Sibanda allegedly tried to use a “veggie trap” to get his hands on the innocent girl.
Prosecutor Hazel Ncube told the court that on 1 January, the victim was home with her elder sister while their mother was out doing piece jobs to put food on the table.

Sibanda allegedly arrived at the homestead and started sniffing around, asking if the parents were home.
When the girl told him they were out, the “wolf” made his move.

He allegedly lied to the complainant, claiming her mother had sent him to take her to his house to collect tomatoes and dried veggies.

However, the smart girl refused to go with him.

Determined to get his way, Sibanda allegedly followed her into the kitchen, pretending he was thirsty and asking for water. That is when the horror started.

The court heard that the accused grabbed the girl’s hand, forced her to the ground, and began stripping her of her clothes. But he didn’t count on the hero in the room.

The victim’s elder sister didn’t just stand there and scream — she grabbed a nearby umbrella and gave the pervert a solid thrashing on the shoulder.

Shocked by the umbrella-wielding girl, the suspect took to his heels and fled the scene.

A report was made to the police, and the “Tomato Man” was soon put behind bars. Sibanda was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody until 16 April.
