Raradza dies Raymond Jaravaza, Zimpapers Reporter
THE first black Zimbabwean to establish and own a coal mine in the country Honourable Edward Raradza has died.
He was 79.
Honourable Raradza was the first black Zimbabwean to own a coal mining company during the colonial era when the industry was dominated by white and foreign players.
He was the director of Zambezi Gas and Coal Mine.
Hon. Raradza died in Harare on Friday evening.
Family representative Mr Mathe Raradza confirmed the passing of Hon. Raradza and described his death as a huge loss to the family.
“I can confirm that my father passed away yesterday around 8PM. It was a shock to the family and we are still trying to process his death,” said Mr Raradza.
In an interview with Zimpapers, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland North, Richard Moyo, said the mining mogul played a significant role in the development of the province.
“The people of Matabeleland North Province will forever be indebted to the development that Honourable Raradza brought to our province.
“He was not only a mining entrepreneur but a mining and development champion in MatabelelandNorth Province,” said Minister Moyo
