TWO Bulawayo City councillors are expected to hand themselves over to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) today in connection with an alleged extortion case involving Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu, Ward 28 councillor Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu and former councillor Alderman Rodney Jele.
The development comes as the three accused councillors are set to appear at the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court for their initial appearance after being arrested by Zacc over allegations of extorting US$52 000 from a local businessman.
The identities of the two councillors expected to surrender to Zacc have not yet been disclosed.
Their lawyer, Mr Nqobani Sithole, confirmed the development, saying the exact charges against his clients were still unclear.
“I can confirm that my clients will be handing themselves over to Zacc later today. The charges against them are not yet clear, we hope to get more information when we get to Zacc,” said Mr Sithole.
The latest development brings the number of councillors linked to the widening investigation to five.
Cllr Edwin Ndlovu’s arrest comes barely a year after he was acquitted in a high-profile corruption case.
