THREE brothers targeted a Harare woman, raiding her house twice and threatening her with some weapons, before stealing her car, some cellphones, a laptop and a tablet.

One of the brothers, Brian Chiteshi, has been arrested for allegedly carrying out a series of armed robberies, in which they targeted the same victim.

He appeared in court yesterday and was remanded in custody.Brian appeared before Harare magistrate, Ruth Moyo, facing robbery charges and was not asked to plead.

The court heard that Brian allegedly acted in connivance with his brothers, Tafadzwa and Bright Chiteshi, who are still at large.

Prosecutors allege that on February 16, at around 1am, the trio hatched a plan and armed themselves with logs before proceeding to the complainant Yvonne Luisa Masaya’s residence.

They allegedly forced entry through a window and confronted Masaya in her bedroom.

The court heard that the brothers threatened her with violence, ordering her to remain quiet while demanding cash. They allegedly ransacked the house and stole a Samsung cellphone before proceeding to the other rooms where they took an iPhone 12, a laptop, a Samsung A2 cellphone and a Samsung tablet. The trio allegedly demanded car keys for a Honda Fit, which was parked outside, but fled after failing to start the vehicle.

In a second incident, on March 1, at around 1:30am, the trio allegedly returned to the same house armed with logs and glass cutters.

It is alleged they again forced entry and confronted Masaya in her bedroom, where one of them grabbed her by the neck while ordering her to keep quiet. They allegedly stole two Samsung A12 cellphones and US$25 before taking the keys to the complainant’s Honda Fit and driving away.

Investigations led to the recovery of the vehicle, which had allegedly been sold to a third party.

Chiteshi was later arrested following a tip-off linking him to the robberies and was positively identified by Masaya.

Magistrate Moyo remanded him in custody pending further investigations.
