AN artisanal miner went berserk and stabbed three miners, including two brothers, to death after an altercation at Chipato Syndicate Mine compound in Chakari.
Brothers Honest and Conrad Shumbamhini and Innocent Mudonhi, from Makororo Farm in Chakari, were killed in the attack.
Innocent was 21 while Honest was 20 and Conrad was 25.
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday last week.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H- Metro, there was an altercation between the three men and the suspected murderer.
“The suspect stabbed the first deceased on the stomach with a knife and left him with protruding intestines,” said Insp Kohwera.
“He stabbed the second deceased once on the stomach and once on the right hand.
“The unknown suspect also stabbed the third deceased once on the stomach, using the same knife, and left the scene.”
Witnesses called ZRP Chakari and reported the incident.
Insp Kohwera said Mudonhi died upon admission at Chegutu Hospital while the Shumbamhini brothers died a day after the attack.
Meanwhile, police in Kadoma are investigating the murder of Ziggy Majawa Phiri, 44, of house number 10 Machando Street, Rimuka.
Insp Kohwera said on Friday Majawa went to work at a brickmaking company overnight and never returned home.
His young brother, Dereck Phiri, went to look for him at his workplace.
“Upon reaching a footpath near the Harare-Bulawayo Road, he discovered a trail of blood heading towards the brick moulding place and found his brother’s body. The body had a deep cut on the left thigh, a stab wound on the right thigh, three stab wounds on the right buttock and one stab wound on the back,” said Insp Kohwera.
He said the police were concerned with the number of murder cases being committed in Mashonaland West province.
“People must have the spirit of ubuntu, respect the sanctity of life and avoid resolving misunderstandings by the use of violence,” said Insp Kohwera.
He appealed to members of the public for information which could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
