Bulawayo branch manager steals US$28 298, stock worth US$25 243 from employer

A branch manager at Bulawayo shop has been dragged to court charged with theft after he unlawfully took cash amounting to US$28 298 and stock worth US$25 243 from a company he works for.

Zwabamwe Moyo (43) of Power Shop cottages located at corner 13th Avenue and Herbert Chitepo Street and is employed at Lucky Brands Private Limited, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Ms Patience Madondo, charged with theft.

He was remanded in custody to today (March 24) for bail consideration.

The complainant is Power Shop being represented by Mr Gary Mark Jones who is employed as a stock controller.

Prosecuting, Mr Joseph Rugara said allegations are that on a date unknown to the prosecutor but during the period extending from February 1 to March 17 2026, the accused person hatched a plan to steal from the company.

“The accused person unlawfully took sales cash amounting to US$28 298 and converted the money to his own use instead of depositing it into Stanbic Bank account, the company account,” said Mr Rugara.

The court heard that, Moyo also took the stock worth US$25 243 and sold it to different clients without receipts.

Investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of the accused person. The total value stolen is US$53 541 and nothing was recovered.
