A 30-year-old Bulawayo man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for having sexual intercourse with his 14-year-old ‘girlfriend’ in a maize field.
Darlington Ncube of Cowdray Park appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing a charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor.
He was sentenced to 24 months in prison of which six months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining 18 months are effective.
However, the accused person denied the charges claiming he does not know the complainant, and that he never slept with her.
He left the court in shock when he suggested that maybe the complainant slept with him ‘spiritually’ not physically because it never happened.
Prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the accused person and the complainant had a love relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend.
He said on March 3, 2026 at around 8PM the accused person called the complainant so that they can meet.
The court heard that the accused person and complainant went to a nearby maize field near Magadzire Cowdray Park and they had consensual sexual intercourse.
The complainant was referred to hospital for medical examination and the matter was reported leading to the arrest of accused person.
