THE driver of a Rimbi Tours bus and three passengers escaped unhurt after the coach hit a broken down truck that was partially blocking the lane along Christmas Pass this morning.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the accident.
“A Rimbi Tours driver, Gift Mganiwa (34) of Glendale, Mazowe was driving a Zhongtong bus around 4am with three passengers on board at Christmas Pass along the Mutare-Harare Highway.
“Approaching a curve along the slopes, he realised that a truck had broken down and was partially blocking the lane. He applied emergency brakes without success as the road was slippery following the light rains received in Mutare.
“The bus subsequently hit the truck on the right side of the door, causing frontal damages upon impact. The truck driver, Tawanda Gwara (61) of Waterfalls, Harare, who was inside the vehicle during the incident, as well as those onboard the bus did not sustain any injuries,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
He urged motorists to always exercise caution on the roads and take the necessary precautions when their vehicles break down.
