AN award-winning businesswoman, who spoiled herself on her 35th birthday by having fun in Paris, Rome, Berlin and Madrid, is now facing allegations of defrauding scores of people who lost US$624,000 and ZiG1,275,878.
Hazel Mafu is the director of Hezy Motors Logistics and has already appeared in court facing fraud charges related to an elaborate bogus car importation scheme.
She is expected back in court today for her bail application.
The fraudulent activities, according to prosecutors, happened in the last four years.
Hazel allegedly advertised vehicle importation services through various platforms and claimed she could import cars on behalf of clients.
However, prosecutors say she did not deliver as agreed, in a number of cases, leaving scores of clients counting their costs which amount to US$634,000 and ZiG1,275,878.
Nothing was recovered.
It’s a stunning turnaround for a businesswoman who has won many awards of excellence, invited to a number of radio shows to tell her story and has been a guest speaker at women empowerment forums.
Last year, she won the Outstanding Young CEO silver award.

“I appreciate the trust placed in me and remain committed to driving excellence, integrity, and impactful outcomes for our clients and partners.”
That trust, and integrity, are now being tested in the courts.
With Hazel’s next birthday only days away, on Saturday, her current situation is in stark contrast to the fun she was having this time last year.
She decided to spoil herself with a holiday in France, Rome, Spain and Germany.
She shared the highlights of her holiday with her followers on social media.
“On top of the World, Effiel Tower, Paris! Every moment feels cinematic,” she posted when she arrived in Paris.
“Even the strongest engine needs a fuel stop. Let’s normalise rest as part of success.
“Comment with your favourite way to recharge, and tag a fellow friend who deserves a pause. It’s the guide for me.”
Then, it was time for Rome, Italy.
“Found Inspiration where ancient stones meet modern hustle. The COLOSSEUM looks timeless, and so to do my to-do list until I choose a standstill.
“Yes, it’s a holiday and resting is part of business. Rome you are amazing.”
She also shared highlights of her time in Berlin, Germany, and the Royal Palace in Madrid.
But, Hazel’s posts were not just about her holidays.
There are also posts about her business trips, including one she took to Osaka, Japan, in April.
She posted her photo exchanging notes with some businessmen.
“On the other side of the world closing deals and building an empire,” she said.
“This journey has not been easy, but every sacrifice, every sleepless night, every door that was slammed in my face built the woman standing here today.
“To everyone who believed in me, prayed for me, cheered for me quietly and loudly, THANK YOU.”
Hazel built an impressive profile of herself, and her business, especially on social media that she was invited to share her journey on radio stations and at other platforms.
One of those occasions was when she was the guest speaker at an event in Gweru last year.

“It’s a story of resilience, bold leadership, and unfiltered truth from a woman navigating a man’s world.
“Gratitude to every supporter, mentor, partner, and follower. The journey continues and together, we rise.”
