CAPS United have handed their biggest rivals Dynamos a golden opportunity to prepare for their return to the CAF Confederation Cup by playing in a high-profile match in Tanzania next month.
The Green Machine were invited by a Tanzanian sports management firm to take part in the Simba Day 2026 international friendly football match in Dar es Salaam on August 8.
The consultants, Kishaki Sports Management, extended that invitation on behalf of Simba Sports Club, one of the two biggest football clubs in Tanzania.
They are regulars on the CAF Champions League.
However, when CAPS United president Farai Jere sought clearance from the PSL for his side to play in that match, he was told that a league resolution only allows for such an arrangement to be extended to clubs taking part in the CAF inter-club tournaments.
This means that only Scottland, who are scheduled to play Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, as part of their preparations for the CAF Champions League, and Dynamos, qualify for such a privilege.
Jere then passed on the offer to Dynamos for them to use the match for their CAF Confederation Cup preparations.
DeMbare boss, Vincent Chawonza, has since started communicating with Kishaki Sports Management officials.
The letter from Kishaki to Jere read:
“On behalf of Simba Sports Club, Kishaki Sports Management & Solutions, the club’s official event management partner, has the honour of extending this formal invitation to CAPS United to participate in the Simba Day 2026 to be held Saturday, 8 August, 2026, at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
“Simba Day stands out as the foremost annual occasion in the Club’s calendar – a celebration that unites tens of thousands of supporters, football administrators, commercial partners and members of the press in a shared affirmation of the values and heritage that define Simba Sports Club.
“The centrepiece of the occasion is an international friendly football match, an institution that has come to symbolise the Club’s commitment to the highest standards of the game on the African continent.”
This year’s Simba Day edition is a special occasion.
“This year’s edition carries distinction.
“Simba Sports Club marks its 90th anniversary, commemorating nine decades of football excellence, institutional growth and an enduring contribution to the sport since the Club’s founding in 1936.
“CAPS United FC has been selected as our distinguished invited opponent in full recognition of the club’s exceptional standing in Zimbabwean football.
“Your status as one of the biggest clubs in Zimbabwe speaks to the quality, discipline and ambition that your institution embodies.
“We are confident that your participation will lend the occasion both competitive stature and the prestige it deserves and that supporters in Dar es Salaam will be treated to fixture of this historic occasion.”
