CAPS United draw to get out of danger

Zimpapers Sports Hub, Caps United 0-0 MWOS

PREMIERSHIP debutants MWOS strengthened their grip on second place after a goalless draw against CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium.

The point was enough for the Punters to move to 59, edging one clear of Simba Bhora, who were also held by Bikita Minerals. It was MWOS’s third visit to Rufaro this season and though they again failed to win there, their position in the standings remained intact.

The contest unfolded like two different games. MWOS controlled the first half with sharper movement and possession, while Makepekepe came alive after the break following the introduction of Tanaka Shandirwa, whose energy shifted the momentum.

Both sides created enough chances to win it. Ishmael Wadi missed the clearest of them, blazing over an open net, while MWOS forward Arthur Banda was denied by the keeper from close range. Later, Nyasha Chintuli tested Martin Mapisa with a low drive that the CAPS United goalkeeper pushed away.

For Makepekepe, the draw was enough to confirm safety. They now sit on 40 points, comfortably out of the relegation zone, while MWOS remain well placed to finish their debut top flight season among the league’s best.
