A TSHOLOTSHO man who tried to drag romance back to the Stone Age has been slammed with a heavy 20-year jail term after using a knobkerrie as his twisted idea of courtship.
Sandile Dumane (24) of Sikente Line learnt that caveman tactics are a crime in modern society after he brutally attacked and raped his young female neighbour who had dared to say no.
The horrific attack occurred on 28 October around 7PM when the 20-year-old woman was about to lock her bedroom door and retire to bed. Prosecutor Sehliselo Khumalo told the Tredgold magistrates court that Dumane forced his way into the hut like a predator on the hunt.
When the terrified woman asked what he wanted Dumane bluntly demanded sex. She refused and that rejection sparked savage violence. In a frightening throwback to primitive times Dumane raised a knobkerrie and smashed it onto her forehead.
She collapsed onto her blankets bleeding and unconscious. That did not stop him. Dumane went on to rape her several times throughout the night without consent as she lay helpless.
The brutal attack left the court stunned. Magistrate Lungile Ncube handed Dumane a 20-year prison sentence, sending a clear message that women are not hunted and no means no.
