Former President Robert Mugabe’s son, Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, who was arrested for robbery and malicious damage to property, will spend another night behind bars after he was remanded in custody to tomorrow for a bail application.
The five appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai.
Chatunga is being represented by Tabison Bvekwa and Theophilus Mubhemi.
He was arrested together with Terrence Johannes Chinyemba, Fredson Peter, Solomon Pamire and Munashe Mubhawo.
According to court papers, the incident occurred on 3 November at around 1830 hours when security guard Lloyd Panyika Mapanduki (42) was on duty at Brompton Guest Lodge in Harare.
The State alleges that the five men, who were also booked at the guest lodge, confronted Mapanduki and attacked him with open hands and broomsticks without provocation.
As a result of the assault, the complainant allegedly sustained a deep cut on the forehead and bled profusely.
One of the accused persons allegedly took the complainant’s loaded service pistol forcibly. The accused allegedly went on to take his Samsung A56 cellphone and smashed it on the ground.
The court heard that a police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
Stolen property was recovered from the accused, including the pistol which was in Chinyemba’s possession.
The complainant is receiving medical attention at a local hospital.
