THE Zimbabwe senior men’s cricket team will take their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup preparations a notch higher when they leave for Sri Lanka this Wednesday to embark in a week-long training camp.
The Chevrons are scheduled to set base in the port city of Hambantota before relocating to the capital Colombo for the start of their group games in just over two weeks.
The 15-member squad has been training in Harare for the past few days under the watch of coach Justin Sammons and his assistant Dion Ebrahim.
They were joined by former West Indies fast-bowling great Courtney Walsh, as bowling consultant to bolster their preparations ahead of the tournament to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Zimbabwe will compete in Group B alongside Australia, Ireland, Oman and Sri Lanka, with the top two teams from the group advancing to the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
The Chevrons will open their T20 World Cup campaign against Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on February 9, before a high-profile encounter against Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium on February 13.
The team will then travel to Kandy to face Ireland at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on February 17, before returning to Colombo to conclude their group fixtures against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium on February 19.
