Chief Dakamela of Nkayi, Matabeleland North, has arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of the belated King Mzilikazi Day celebrations scheduled for September 13 in Bradford.
Chief Dakamela was among the traditional leaders who took part in the main celebrations at koMhlahlandlela last weekend. The UK event will bring together Ndebele communities living in the UK, offering a space to celebrate the life and legacy of King Mzilikazi through cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and displays of heritage.
The Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mohammed Shafiq, is set to be the guest of honour.
The UK edition of King Mzilikazi Day was first launched in September 2008 in Pimlico, London. The initiative emerged after recognising the growing population of people from Matabeleland in the UK and aimed to strengthen cultural pride and awareness among the diaspora.
Drawing on the guidance of renowned social and cultural activists from Matabeleland and beyond, the celebrations seek to empower those who identify with King Mzilikazi to take their place alongside other nations of the world while honouring their unique heritage.
