MUSHANDIRAPAMWE Hotel was transformed into a Dendera festival on Saturday.

The night had been billed as a joint performance by Sulumani Chimbetu and Kurai Makore.

But Tryson Chimbetu made a surprise appearance that turned an already explosive show into a super event.

Another Chimbetu musician, Douglas, added weight to the event.

The Chimbetus blended generations of sound into a seamless and beautiful show which caught the imagination of the crowd.

They traded vocals and classic Dendera drills while the audience responded with unrestrained joy.

“Sulu is a winner today because, as an elder brother, he has finally united them, regardless of past bad-mouthing,” said Samuel Mhanduwe Chimbadzo, an arts promoter.

“This is a lesson to every elder brother at home – unite your families and clans, no matter what was said in the past.

“That is why we stashed their pockets with United States dollars.

“When Tryson jumped onto the stage singing ‘Mukoma Sam’, the crowd went wild. Memories flooded back instantly.”
