CHIPFUMO RECOVERS FROM KNEE OPERATION

Musician Progress Chipfumo has fully recovered from a knee operation that had been troubling him for some time.

The leader of Sounds of Motherland underwent treatment in the United Kingdom, where he has been residing for nearly eight months.

He is set to return home next month, feeling fit and ready to perform.

“The operation went according to plan, and I can now stand for long hours,” Chipfumo shared.

“It has always been my hope to return home in good shape, and I am grateful for the treatment I received here. I can’t wait to meet my fans back home, and for those who doubted my recovery, just wait for my return next month.”

Chipfumo reassured his fans that he is indeed heading back to Harare next month.

“I will be returning to Zimbabwe on August 7th and will immediately get back to work,” he stated in a telephone interview.

“On August 8th, I will hold my first show after my return at Position Bar in Avondale, followed by another performance at Mzansi Lounge in Mvurwi the next day. There’s also another gig scheduled for Steak House Pub & Grill on August 10th, along with a series of other performances during the Heroes holidays.”

After his recovery, he has been featuring at jam sessions in England alongside other Zimbabwean musicians staying in the UK.

In most of the videos shared online, he appeared in high spirits, with some of his fans speculating that he might have decided to stay overseas for good.

However, many of his fans back home have been eagerly awaiting his return, especially amid speculation that he might take longer than expected.

He stressed that Zimbabwe will always be his home despite his brief stint in the UK.

“You know I just love my country, my band members, and my fans. I will never desert them, as claimed in some circles, because we have been a united family for years.

“We have been through a lot, and we understand each other after all that we have endured together.

“I can assure my fans back home of memorable shows when I return. I am now ready to go as usual,” asserted Chipfumo.

He also assured fans of more music in the second half of the year.

Chipfumo’s camp has been busy with visuals, something which is expected to raise the appeal of his music, especially the latest album.

The singer left for the UK after successfully launching his eighth album named “Hope.”

The album is still doing well on the charts after he engaged some of the country’s finest producers.

On this album, he worked with Maselo, Knowledge Nkoma, Kunashe Studios, and Ghost from Harare,” he said. Some of the tracks to look forward to include “Piro,” “Rugare,” “Ndakanga Ndirimo,” “Ndovada Sei,” “Vana Vangu,” and “Rudo Chii?” featuring Dorcas Moyo.

With over 25 years in the game, Chipfumo, a tried and tested lyricist and performer, has seen it all. He has also been credited with uplifting other upcoming musicians who need his expertise.

Besides some of his off-stage antics, Chipfumo is a talented musician who still has the mojo to maintain his dignity.

Known for his powerful voice, stage presence, and guitar prowess, he continues to win the hearts of many with each album.

Chipfumo has been consistent since the turn of the new millennium.

He has produced several songs that chronicle his life as an orphan, as well as giving hope to the downtrodden and those in despair.

Besides “Hope,” Chipfumo boasts a rich catalog of albums comprising “Progress Report” released in 2000, “Let Them Know” (2002), “Ndinovatenda Nei” (2004), “Tsiurika” (2007), “Hold My Hand” (2013), and “Progress Report” in 2017.

Love him or loathe him, Chipfumo is one of the creative geniuses to emerge after the new millennium when he assembled Sounds of Motherland after parting ways with Portia Gwanzura at Hohodza Hot Band.

He was a vital cog at Hohodza as a lead guitarist and vocalist.

His departure was strongly felt when he left Gwanzura to start his own ensemble, which has been doing well.

Although his fortune is yet to match his fame, he remains optimistic that one day lady luck will smile on him.
