BUHLEBENKOSI Moyo (16) from Dominican Convent High School in Bulawayo has demonstrated her brilliance by being named “Tops in the World” for Cambridge International’s Religious Studies General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGSCE) exams.
Buhlebenkosi scored an impressive 96 percent in the 2023 Cambridge exams, which are offered in over 145 countries worldwide.
Her father, Mr Luckson Moyo, expressed his family’s surprise at her international recognition, as Buhlebenkosi had previously excelled in Mathematics and Science. He, however, noted that Buhlebenkosi had always shown a deep love for Bible Studies, which she developed through daily family worship.
Despite coming from humble roots, Buhlebenkosi’s academic success has made her parents proud. Her father noted that her mother’s dedication to helping their children stay up-to-date with their studies was a significant factor in Buhlebenkosi’s achievement. He encouraged other parents to engage fully with their children’s education and to provide support as they face challenges in a rapidly changing world.
“We are so happy about this recognition considering that we come from humble backgrounds as her parents. Buhle has done us proud and it’s surprising because she has always been good in Mathematics and Science,” said Mr Moyo.
“We would like to thank everyone for the support, including the church where we worship, as it has nurtured her love for religious studies. I also attribute her hard work to my wife who has been putting in extra effort to ensure that our children are up-to-date with their school work. Indeed, being a present parent helps,” he said.
Buhlebenkosi, who aspires to become a doctor and is currently studying Sciences at A-level, was thrilled to receive global recognition from Cambridge IGCSE.
She urged her peers to remain committed to their studies and to build a strong relationship with God, which she said is vital to her academic success.
“The award I have received is an international recognition from Cambridge IGCSE for being the highest in the world for Bible Knowledge with a whooping score of 96 percent. I feel honoured to receive this award as I have always dreamt of being recognised worldwide for my efforts and I’m more than thrilled knowing that I have made my parents proud,” she said.
“The advice I would like to give to my peers is to work hard consistently throughout the term and put in all their efforts to ensure they reap the fruits of their labour.
Buhlebenkosi’s academic brilliance and commitment to her studies serve as an inspiration to all learners, regardless of their background or challenges.
